Why do we need permanent monitoring?

Traditionally, when reinforced concrete structures are repaired due to heavy corrosion, not enough thought is given to the potential for continous future corrosion damage to the same structure. Often, the assumption is that the job is completed once the "scaffolding is down" or perhaps with a few years' warranty afterwards.

The most common method for inspecting a repaired structure is visual investigation, yet this will not reveal whether the corrosion damage has been stopped or not. Surveillance and permanent monitoring of corrosion parameters is the only effective long-term solution as it will provide you with reliable information about the state of the corrosion inside. If cathodic protection has been installed, the surveillance system is vital in order to control the effect of the CP on the previously corrosion exposed rebars.

Protector AS has created a digital monitoring system to provide permanent monitoring of corrosion and CP effects. Please see the details of the Camur II system for further information.
